To begin using your dig
plan you first need to lay out your pool, you then set up your sight level
or laser level. Establish your benchmark, your benchmark is the
reference point you will rely on to set the pool at a particular elevation.
For instance, if you want your pool to be three inches lower than the sill
at the back door then your benchmark would be that sill. You then shoot
your benchmark with your sight level or laser level to establish your zero
point, when you shoot the benchmark you come up with a number (lets say
thirty-five inches) that number reflects how many inches off the ground your
level is, thats your zero point. You always add your zero point to
the depths at your dig stations or whatever else you are relating to. If the
shallow end of my pool, or my first dig station is 36 I would convert that
into inches which equals 42. I would then add my zero point of 35 which
equals 77. You must also decide if you are going to pour an over pour
or cantilever deck on your pool, if so the pool must go down in the hole
another 3and you would have to add that 3 to your dig depth.
The standard amount of pitch
on lightly textured concrete is Ό to ½ per foot for drainage so for every
foot of distance the pool is from the benchmark or from the deck drain you
must raise the pool Ό to ½ per foot, for instance if your pool is six feet
from the house (and your pouring your deck up to the house) you would raise
the pool 1 ½ to 3 higher and you would deduct this number from your pool
dig. When you raise the pool you deduct and to lower you add.
So lets try this:
Benchmark:
35 Down 3 for step down:
+ 3 = 38
Down
3 for over pour (cantilever):
+ 3 = 41
Up
1 & ½ for pitch: - 1 ½
Dig number
= 39 ½
We would then add 39 ½ to
each of the dig station numbers. Remember that when you go up with the pool
it is up to the lower number and when you go down it is to a higher number.
ADD 3 to LOWER your pool 3 SUBTRACT 3 to
RAISE your pool 3
