Sure, a spa can help
you relax and unwind. But it also delivers
therapeutic benefits.
The swirling, bubbling waters are known to ease
muscle aches, which makes a spa the perfect place
to visit after a workout.

Sometimes, people who live in areas with cold winters
are reluctant to consider a spa. They feel their use
of the spa will be limited to warm weather.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Spas can be
used all year long, even in cold climates.
The fact is, a spa's bubbling waters get your skin so
warm, you won't even feel the cold when you get out.
You can simply slip on a robe and walk back inside the
house -- relaxed, cozy and completely comfortable.
You might be surprised to learn that spas are very
popular in ski resort areas. And small wonder. There's
nothing like a soothing soak in a spa to help
counteract a day of exertion on the slopes. And few
things are as relaxing and romantic as unwinding in a
spa while you look out at a peaceful, snowy setting.

Today, there are so
many different sizes and shapes of spas, there's
one to fit virtually any home. From cozy spaces
for two, to roomy spas for the whole family, your
choices are practically unlimited.
To determine which size is right for you, first
consider the maximum number of users you'd like
the spa to hold. This will help you select the
right size when you visit your spa dealer.
Second, choose a location for the spa. Most people
find a deck or patio to be an ideal spot. A spa
can also be placed in your yard.
Keep in mind that most of today's spas are
considered "portable"; they only require access to
electricity, not to plumbing. This gives you a lot
of options for selecting a position for your spa.
Because there are so many sizes of spas available,
it's impossible to say exactly how much space
you'll need. But you can use these figures as a
starting point:
An average-size four-person spa (including
cabinetry) is approximately 8' by 8' -- or 64
square feet.
A typical two-person spa (including cabinetry is
about 6' by 6' -- or 36 square feet.

What are the
major benefits that a consumer will see as
a result of the addition of
Microban® Antimicrobial product protection
to Lucite® cast acrylic surfaces?<
While LUCITE cast acrylic surfaces have
always been easier to keep clean than any
other materials, the addition of MICROBAN
product protection will make the sheet
better: MICROBAN inhibits the growth of
bacteria, which cause stain and odor.
Therefore, units will stay cleaner between
cleanings. The benefit is locked into the
material itself and will not be washed
away like currently available sprays and
liquids. It is engineered to last the life
of the spa. Always being there and
inhibiting the growth of various microbes
will help protect the spa's surface from
this sort of attack.
How does Microban Antimicrobial
protection work?
MICROBAN Antimicrobial protection is
incorporated into LUCITE during its
manufacturing process. This is why
MICROBAN is a durable part of the product,
both inside and at its surface. MICROBAN
protection intercepts bacteria at the
product's surface and inhibits their
growth.
What kind of proof do you have
that Microban Antimicrobial product
protection is safe?
MICROBAN has undergone extensive
independent laboratory testing and has
been proven safe. It is registered with
the EPA for all applications in which it
is used. Furthermore, MICROBAN is
registered with the FDA for specific
end-use medical applications. Products
with MICROBAN protection have been used
safely in medical applications for over
ten years, such as in surgical incise
drapes, hospital bed mattresses and pillow
ticking.
What happens if a Lucite acrylic
surface is scratched or chipped? Will any
type of abrasion diminish the Microban
protection?
MICROBAN Antimicrobial protection is not a
coating on the surface of the LUCITE
acrylic. Like color, it is added during
manufacturing, literally becoming part of
the product. Cleaning or other types of
abrasion will not impede MICROBAN
protection. In fact, Microban Products
Company and INEOS Acrylics, Inc. strongly
suggest that appropriate cleaning
practices continue to be used.
Does this mean that I don't have
to clean my products as much or as
carefully?
No. Because MICROBAN Antimicrobial product
protection is an added level of
protection, appropriate cleaning and
sanitizing practices should continue to be
used. MPC and INEOS Acrylics, Inc.
recommend the best possible regimen for
all products.
Does this product work only in
plastics?
MICROBAN product protection is already
established as an antimicrobial component
for products used in hospitals,
laboratories and food processing
facilities to help protect those
products against the growth of bacteria.
It is used in fibers to make fabrics for
items such as pillows and mattress pads,
socks and underwear. It is used in
carpeting, flooring materials, surgical
incise drapes, dental instrument trays,
toothbrushes, mops and many other
products.
What types of organisms does it
work against?
MICROBAN product protection is a
broad-spectrum antimicrobial - it is
effective against the most common bacteria
that cause odors and stains.
Does Microban begin working
immediately?
MICROBAN Antimicrobial product protection
begins to work as soon as the bacteria
come into contact with the product
containing MICROBAN protection. It then
works to maintain a consistently lower
bio-burden that would be expected on a
product without MICROBAN protection.
What effects does Microban have on
decreasing disease?
We are not making health claims for these
products. MICROBAN Antimicrobial product
protection inhibits the growth of
bacteria. We believe the control of
bacterial growth and the resultant lower
bio-burden to be important benefits.
Has anyone ever gotten sick from
using products with Microban Antimicrobial
product protection?
While it is impossible to say that no one
will ever experience an allergic reaction
to anything, like color additives, it is
highly unlikely a negative experience
would be observed, especially since
MICROBAN is used in such low levels.
MICROBAN is incorporated into the plastic
that is used to make the product.
Therefore, it is bound to the material,
making it a durable part of the finished
product both inside and at its surface,
similar to the color added to the plastic.
What are the ingredients in the
Microban additive?
MICROBAN Antimicrobial product protection
is an organic compound in the same family
as triclosan. Triclosan is one of the most
widely tested antimicrobials in the world.
This product has been used worldwide for
many years, in various consumer
applications including toothpaste,
mouthwash and most antibacterial soaps.
Does Microban product protection
cause resistant strains of organisms?
After more than thirty years of use in
numerous consumer and professional product
applications around the world, there has
been no evidence of resistant strain
development.
Does Microban product protection
have any effect on minerals buildup?
No.

Your new spa will be so
beautiful, you may be tempted to fuss over it. Don't
bother.
If the shell is made of Lucite® cast acrylic, spa
maintenance is as easy as wiping it with mild
detergent.
Water, filters and cleanups.
Naturally, you don't need to drain a spa after each
use. But you should keep an eye on water quality.
Testing and proper treatment will keep the water clean
and inviting. Your spa dealer can provide
recommendations on the proper products for easy use.
Draining and refilling is simple. If
you buy a spa with an Ozonator -- a device that kills
bacteria in your spa water -- refilling once or twice
a year should suffice. After your spa is drained, wipe
the surface with a soft cloth or sponge. If the shell
is made of LUCITE, a mild cleaner will restore its
showroom luster, year after year.
Of course, your portable spa will come with its own
filtration system. The filter cartridge will need to
be removed and rinsed from time to time. Check your
owner's manual for complete instructions.
Safety. To keep children and pets
safe around the spa, be sure to purchase a cover that
can be locked in place when your spa isn't in use. In
general, children under 6 years old shouldn't use a
spa -- and of course, no child should be allowed near
a spa without adult supervision. Pregnant women should
consult their doctor before using a spa.
A hot tub spa is a wonderful investment in your
personal well-being. The soothing warmth of the
bubbling water eases away tensions and stress.
Hot tub spas made with LUCITE® cast acrylic have
always been the easiest to clean. Now Ineos Acrylics
has taken LUCITE acrylic surfaces to the next level by
incorporating MICROBAN antimicrobial product
protection. And MICROBAN won't wear off with time
because it's actually built in the hot tub spa's
surface.
