Are you dying for an Inground Pool in order to create the backyard retreat you have always wanted? Instead your backyard is sloped nightmare?

Don’t worry. A DIY Semi-Inground Pool Kit might be the perfect option! The slope is too severe, the water table is too high, or you’ve hit BEDROCK six feet into the dig!!! Scary right? We know. Good news is, there is a solution. Don-da-duhhhh– Semi Inground swimming pools!

The ‘In Between’ Pool

Semi-Inground pools are the dynamic in-between pool option that can piece your shattered dreams of a backyard Oasis back together! With quality designs, and rugged Inground-style steel walls, Semi-Inground Pools can be inserted into most yards and create a similar, if not more appealing environment than a typical Inground Pool!

While DIY Semi-Inground Pool Kits are considered one of the newer pool designs in the industry, Pool Warehouse has already secured more than a couple of stories and testimonials from our customers detailing how making the switch to a Semi-Inground pool took their backyard from an impossibility, to just the opposite!

Overcoming Obstacles – A Testimony

Mr. and Mrs. Eby, a couple who reached out to us last June in hopes of getting a pool, had already been in the process of building an Inground Kit. However, upon further research into what their county would require for permitting, the grade of slope they had near their dig site, and discovering their rocky soil type, they determined that they would not be able to achieve a proper Inground Pool Dig.

However, the Eby’s were determined to find another solution. “One way or another, we were going to have a pool,” said Mr. Eby in a recent interview. After consideration and additional research, they called back and talked to one of our specialists about options for attaining a Semi-Inground pool. Now, 4 months later, the Eby’s have their pool achieving their DIY dreams.

As you can see in the picture above, the Eby’s had a decent size slope that they had to build into. When asked about the process for digging the pool site, Mr. Eby said that it was, “Not bad at all,” and added that,” Anyone who could follow the instructions provided with the Pool Kit could understand how simple the process was.”

Do I Need Previous Construction Experience?

Mr. Eby has admitted that he does have a background in construction. He has had years of experience using heavy machinery and excavation equipment–like the ones used to level the pool pad above. However, he and his wife also noted that any customer who has “done the research needed for building a pool”, can do this type of project and succeed!

“It was really simple. Once the dig and leveling was done, we unloaded all of the materials and followed the instructions,” said Eby.

Another challenge that the Eby’s faced in this project was the soil type that they encountered in their yard. Typically, the best soil type for installing any type of pool is soft soil that can easily be dug and moved. However, there are cases where the green grass and even soft top soil can fool you. In these cases, having large portions of rock or layers of rock below the surface can become a major expense.

But, this is where Semi-Inground pool kits have the edge. These versatile pool kits can be placed in a wide array of different depth levels, offering pool owners another option.

Pictured above is the Eby’s lawn and pool pad area! As you can see, their lawn looks to have green and fertile grass! Commonly an indicator of good soft soil. But, as previously stated, it is always best to be prepared for the situation in which you might find layers of rock underneath the lofty top soil when beginning your pool dig.

Rocky Soil? No Problem!

“Arkansas is known for having rocky soil. So, we kind of knew that going in we might have that issue. But with the excavation equipment, it wasn’t bad at all, “ said Eby. “We put the pool down about four feet in the ground and the rest was just aesthetic. That’s what these pools are meant for, situations like this.”

Wow! A four foot dig for an entire pool is certainly unique. You might ask, “How is it possible for a pool to be in the ground at this depth? How do the walls not collapse due to the differing pressure from the surrounding ground? Oh, and speaking of surrounding ground–how is this thing backfilled?”

Solving Problems

Semi-Inground Pools are constructed using 14-gauge steel wall panels that are designed to withstand uneven planes and surfaces with differing levels of backfill. Additionally, these steel wall panels come with a lifetime warranty! That makes these pools a long-term option for your home!

Pressure behind the walls only happens when you bury the pool all the way in the ground. Simply backfill like an Inground style pool using non-expandable backfill material (like gravel) to backfill around the pool.

Furthermore, the depth in which you have a Semi-Inground pool set is completely preferential. Again, the pool’s materials and structure are meant to withstand harsh or less than ideal environments.

Last, the average cost of a Semi-Inground Pool kit is around $10,000 dollars. So, in terms of price Semi-Ingrounds are effectively the middle ground. However, the total cost of your project will obviously be determined by what you want your backyard to look like. Obviously decking, landscaping, or even the equipment to install the pool, causes fluctuation on total project cost.
