Inground Swimming Pool Liner Measuring And Installation FAQ

Q. How do I order a pool liner?
A. We will need the dimensions of your swimming pool. You will need to complete a replacement inground pool liner order form available on our website found under the Swimming Pool Liners tab. You can either complete the form online or you can print the form and complete and fax to us at 888-491-1236. Once payment is made your order will be processed.

Q. How long does it take until I receive my order?
A. All replacement inground pool liner liners are custom made regardless if they are a standard shape and size. Once an order is processed, it takes between 3 to 5 business days for the pool liner to be made. Then it is just a question of transit time for the liner to be delivered from the manufacturer to you. You should expect delivery within 10 to 14 days after being ordered. Express service is available for expedited 24-48 hour service.

Q. If I have to measure the swimming pool liner myself, how accurate do the measurements have to be?
A. If you don’t have a drawing showing the dimensions your swimming pool was built to, you will have to measure the pool liner yourself. If you do have a drawing, it’s best to verify the accuracy of the dimensions on the drawing. For measurement tips, click on the Swimming Pool Liners tab. As to accuracy, there is a little wiggle room in regards to accuracy due to the nature of the material. But, the more accurate the better in assuring a good to perfect fitting vinyl pool liner.

Q. What’s the difference between 20mil, 28mil, and 30mil vinyl pool liner?
A. The thickness of the material, the larger the number the thicker the vinyl material.

Q. Is thicker vinyl liner material better?
A. Only if you have unusual activities happening in your swimming pool such as large dogs that might claw at the sides of the pool, or heavy activity over and beyond normal swimming activity. You will pay more for the thicker vinyl material and receive the same warranty as the standard 20mil vinyl material. Some patterns are only available in the thicker material so it might be worth the extra cost for this reason.

Q. How long does it take to install a new vinyl inground pool liner?
A.
The time will vary depending on the size and shape of the swimming pool, the condition of the pool and whether or not repairs are necessary, and how much help you have. The most time spent will be draining and refilling the pool with water once the new vinyl liner has been installed. Expect to spend 2 to 4 hours removing faceplates, gaskets, and the old vinyl liner, positioning and installing the new liner prior to refilling the pool with water. For pool liner installation tips and to view a vinyl pool liner installation video, click on the Swimming Pool Liners tab on our website or call us at 800-515-1747 for clarification.

Q. What is the best way to drain a swimming pool prior to replacing a vinyl liner?
A. If the valve on top of your filter has a drain to waste cycle, start in this mode until you drain the water down below your skimmer. Then use a submersible pump to drain the remainder of water.

Q. How do I remove the old vinyl pool liner?
A. After the swimming pool is drained, begin by removing the faceplates and gaskets that seal the various fittings/ openings to the liner, skimmer(s), main drain(s), returns, step, and light. Then, using a razor knife, begin to cut the vinyl liner up into manageable pieces for removal. After the pool liner material is removed, remove the gaskets that are attached to the various fittings under the removed liner. Sweep and or vacuum the pool floor to remove any debris, if necessary patch any areas of the floor that may be damaged, use wall foam if pool walls are damaged or are in rough condition, attach new gaskets to fittings and openings. Note: it’s always best to replace all the gaskets and faceplates when replacing a vinyl swimming pool liner.

Q. What does the warranty cover on a new replacement inground swimming pool liner?
A. The warranty covers the craftsmanship of the pool liner, the seams and the bead attached to the top of the vinyl liner. It does not cover issues beyond the control of the manufacturing process.

Q. After removing the old pool liner and hanging the new vinyl liner, how do you know if the liner is positioned properly?
A. Once the replacement vinyl pool liner is hung or the bead is inserted into the pool liner track, use a vacuum or shop vac with the nozzle inserted between the liner and the pool wall (seal off the opening around the nozzle with a wet towel or duct tape), turn on and suck the air out from behind and under the liner, this should take just a few minutes. Visually inspect the pool liner, you should have equal amounts of material in each corner, the seam lines should run parallel with the shallow end and deep end walls. If necessary, turn the vacuum off, and shift the material around until it is properly positioned.

Q. When do you re attach the new faceplates, gaskets, and cut the vinyl liner material out of the openings?
A. For the main drain(s), wait until you have a few inches of water in the bottom of the pool floor. For the other fittings, wait until the water is just below the fittings, this will allow for the vinyl liner material to stretch into place.

Q. Can I do this and what is the benefit?
A. Only you know your own capabilities. You will need some help to maneuver the new vinyl pool liner into place, this is a difficult project for one person. Aside from this, if you can follow instructions and possess common sense, the answer is absolutely you can do this! The benefit and reward is the pride of accomplishment and the several thousands of dollars you will save by replacing your own pool liner yourself!
