While some people think they know where they are based on the number of movements they complete to get across the pool, most swimmers are thinking more about technique than how many movements it takes to get across the pool. The secret lies in the swim lane lines you see floating in the pool. However, these pool lane lines also serve other purposes as well. Such as identifying where swimmers are in the pool, creating less wake in the pool keeping it more fair in each lane, and helping swimmers stay in their own lane as they swim the length of the pool creating a smoother experience for the swimmer.
